Affirmations

What are affirmations?

Affirmations are short, simple statements that should be used regularly to improve negative thinking habits. Practised daily, they keep the mind focused on positive behaviour patterns and mental well-being. Numerous studies have shown indisputable links between a positive outlook and improved mental and physical health. By replacing negative thoughts or phrases with positive and empowering statements, you retrain your brain to think more positively.

How do affirmations work?

The real power of affirmations lies in repeating them to yourself regularly, whether out loud or silently in your head. It’s a good idea to write them somewhere visible for easy reference. First, choose an affirmation that resonates with you and relates to your situation, considering these important points:

  1. The statement should begin with ‘I’ or ‘my’ (this is about you).
  2. The phrase should be in the present tense (you want to see changes now).
  3. Only positive statements are allowed (ridding yourself of negativity is key).

How to use affirmations?

Pick one or two affirmations and place them where you’ll see them regularly, such as on the bathroom mirror, kitchen cupboard, or as a reminder on your phone. Each time you see the affirmation read it and believe the words. Repeat this as often as possible throughout the day. This practice helps reprogram your brain into a new way of thinking.

Affirmations are also great for goal setting. Once you’ve identified your goals, adapt positive statements to stay motivated and on track to achieve your desired results.
